Getting an InstrumentEveryone is welcome in AAPS music classes!
In 5th grade AAPS provides all students with an instrument free of charge. In middle school most students buy or rent their own instrument, or borrow from a friend or family member.* If you need to borrow an instrument for short-term or long-term use due to financial need, contact your middle school music teacher. Check this list of recommended instrument brands and models. These models have been selected after careful review by AAPS music specialists. They are the models we purchase for school use. If you choose another brand or model make sure it is of similar quality. *The Ann Arbor School District provides the following instruments after 5th grade based on availability and match with the student: Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Oboe, Bassoon, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion Equipment (for in-school use only). These instruments are more expensive to personally own but are greatly needed to enhance the sound of the group. Students may also need to rent one of the larger instruments above for home use depending on availability of school instruments. Instruments Not generally provided after 5th grade: Violin, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Cornet/Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion. There are a limited number of these instruments available for students based on financial need. |
